Summer of Service

Next week I will take part in my first ever Summer of Service (SOS) at Vineyard Community Church.  I am excited to be leading a team of high school students for a week long conference focused on outreach and service.  Several hundred students are going to blitz the city of Cincinnati next week to love on people.  Here is a some info about what SOS is all about.

Summer of service is a week long conference for students who are hungry to impact their world. SOS is not your typical youth conference! We don’t ask students to come and sit, sing and listen. At SOS, we experience powerful worship, we hear great messages, and then we take it to the streets, serving the people of Cincinnati to show God’s love in practical ways. The goal of SOS is to give students an opportunity to grow closer to God while developing a heart to serve those around them. Our mantra is “small things done with great love will change the world.” Over the course of the week, students can expect to go on outreaches every day, extending kindness and generosity to the people of Cincinnati. Instead of just telling people about God’s love, we get creative in showing His love in practical ways.

We will be using #summerofservice to track the event on Twitter.  I will be there each day sharing as much as I can from my phone.  I also plan on blogging each night detailing the day’s events and sharing stories.  Maybe I will even have some video to share thanks to my flip.

Here is the recap video from SOS 2008 if you want to know more.
