Killing Cockroaches is about being effective with our time, energy, and our skills. If we spend too much time trying to do too much, aka killing cockroaches, we allow ourselves to get too spread out to the point where we are not very effective at anything that we are doing.
The book is laid out like an extended series of blog posts. Each post is a story in itself that can easily be identified in the table of contents. I imagine that when I receive the book in print that I will be making small notes in the table of contents to point me back to stories that I will revisit often.
One of the stories that I can very much relate to is called Gunky Build-up. I have spent my fair share of time allowing little things to get in the way of my overall goal or project. It also directly relates to how well I am keeping up with the regular maintenance of things. When I take care of the maintenance stuff as part of routine, it doesn’t build-up into a problem that will completely side track me later for an extended period of time. This applies to my job, ministry, relationships, and projects at home.
Many of the stories just ask honest questions that make me want to respond as if they were a blog post. There were times when I felt the need to comment back, but I could not, so I journaled my own thoughts on different posts. It was very easy to read especially because of the brevity of the chapters if you want to call them that. It was easy to pick up and read a little bit and put down for a time even if for days. The posts (chapters) are in no particular order except for maybe the last one. All but the last are in alphabetical order. I only noticed this at the end when I was scanning the contents for ideas for this review.
I would recommend this book not only to church leaders, but to those who do ministry in volunteer roles. If you are like me, you have a career, a family, and ministry responsibilities. I will likely apply a lot of this book to all of my roles including those outside of ministry. The cockroaches are huge where I work.
If you want to learn more about the crazy cockroaches that you may have seen me tweeting about or talking about, then go buy the book.

Great review. I am currently reading this as well. I really like the Guy Kawasaki interview and thoughts on how Apple would do Church.
I liked the Apple one too. Also am a big fan of the top 10 lists.
