Over the last two weeks, Joe and Dave wrapped up the One Life Series. Joe talked last weekend about the relational life and how a church is a Christian leading a Christian leading a Christian…..and so on and so forth. This thought is what started me down the path about how we follow and share each other’s stories. God then takes our relational lives and communities and stories and weaves them all into the body.
Dave finished the series with the emotional life this past weekend. He talked about how common it is for us to not pay attention to emotions. We become emotionless robots repeating the same comfortable pattern over and over again. Without emotions we cannot be vulnerable. Vulnerability is allowing others to speak into your life. If we don’t allow this to happen, we will never change or grow and will remain in a stagnant cesspool.
The big idea of this series is that we are to have one life. We easily compartmentalize our different roles and responsibilities living many different lives. We get worn down because we have to keep shifting gears. If we are not working to be a whole person, some of these areas may fall short and eventually can drag the rest of our person down.
I think that the hard part for me will be finding balance in the aspects of financial, physical, inner, relational, and emotional. My word for the year is ‘Focus.’ Just as we examined how Jesus and the Bible approaches these different parts of life, my focus will be on Jesus as I try to find my one life.
