Job Update

Last week, I went through a whirlwind of changes as I moved to a new position this week. I showed up Monday expecting to get moving to the new office and to dive head first into learning a new job, but the group I am moving to is very busy this week. I talked to my new manager and he will not be available to get me situated until next Monday. It never ceases to amaze me at the lack of communication around here. Because I have already been pulled off of all of my old projects, I can’t work on my old job this week. So, I am using these last few days here to get prepared for my new job. I have been getting up to speed on VB Scripting and taking online courses to get myself back in the groove on Windows issues. This week is kind of a free pass, but I am anxious to get started on the new job. At this point I am set to get going with things on Monday and hopefully this will be the last delay.

Updated Theme Again

I don’t like to change my theme often, because it causes some confusion when the page changes all of the time. I really liked the last theme and thought it was going to work out great, but I started having some issues with how the title was displayed on each post and I couldn’t get part of my tracking code to work. So I have changed it one more time for the more simple look where I can upload my own header picture. Hopefully, this one will work out really well and I won’t have to change it again for a while. Hope you like. Have a great week.

Dining Room Pics

Faith and I spent this weekend painting our dining room. It was a big challenge with the little ones trying to get in the way. We gated off the dining room and actually did most of the painting while they were sleeping. It looks so much better now. The next big task will be painting the living room and hallway. Still formulating a plan of attack for that one. Here are some before and after pics of the paint job.

Big Big News

A lot can change in a few days.  Currently, I am on a Level 2 Help desk that specifically provides service for email accounts.  Its a decent gig, but can get a little repetitive.  On Tuesday I was approached by management to see if I would be interested in moving to a different position.  They seemed to be just gauging my interest and was checking to see if I may have the skill set that was needed for the new job.  The positions is with the Windows Engineering group who develops all of the Windows images for installation on the GE network.  They were mostly interested in my knowledge of Windows.  Of course I told them that I would be interested and didn’t pay much attention to it or get my hope up about things.  Today, management informed me that I would be starting the new job on Monday morning.  It all has been a big shock to me because everything happened so quickly.  Tomorrow then marks my last day on the email team and I will move onto new digs on Monday.  I have not received all of the details yet, but should find out more tomorrow.  It is a very exciting change.  I would ask for your prayers though because I have a lot to learn in a very short period of time.

Twitter Updater

Windows Updater still did not work when posting from Windows Live Writer even after I had updated the code. I am testing this now to see if I can upload a draft and publish from the site.

Draft successfully uploaded an publishing from site should make Twitter Updater work.

More on Twitter Updater

In a previous post, I was excited to find a new way to automatically update Twitter each time I posted to my blog using the Twitter Updater plugin for WordPress.  It worked beautifully in my initial testing, but I soon ran into the problem that it would not update Twitter if I used Windows Live Writer to post to the Blog.  I like to use WLW because it offers several cool formatting options and I switch to post another blog effortlessly.  I wrote a little about this back in December.  Because I typically use WLW when I post during my lunch hour at work, I was sad to see that Twitter was not updating.  Today I did some research and found some help.  If you visit the author’s site for the plugin and check the 4th comment down, someone found a fix in the PHP file for the plugin so that when posting using WLW, Twitter Updater would catch the post and update to Twitter.  This post will be my first test, but I am not sure if I will be able to verify the update right away as Twitter is blocked at work.  I will update this post once I get confirmation that it worked.

2 Weeks of Superdad

Captain Jack(Ephriam) and Monkey(K.C.) have finally gotten around to blogging again. FYI, in future posts will refer to my children by these names. Here is their recap of the last two weeks.

Earth Day

0422081108Today at work, I was greeted with an environment friendly canvas bag with a packet of wildflowers to plant.  I brought them home to eventually plant with my kids.  That is about as much as I have done for Earth Day today.  Other than that, I have been converting all of my light bulbs to the energy efficient fluorescent bulbs.  I hope that your Earth Day was special.

Interesting Church

I though that this was a new and interesting way to approach church.

SIDNEY, Ohio —  Another round and amen! Beer was on tap and a mechanical bull inspired the sermon as a new church held its inaugural service in a western Ohio bar.

The Country Rock Church drew about 100 people to Sunday night’s meeting at the Pub Lounge in Sidney, 35 miles north of Dayton.
