Key Verse Acts 2:44-47: “And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”
Question for Reflections: Who does your stuff belong to? Is it still held tightly or is it in God’s hands to dispose of as he wills? Are you an owner or a manager?
Several years ago VCC(Vineyard Community Church) did a series on finances. I can’t remember what it was called but I learned a lot from that series. It made me realize that my stuff isn’t really my stuff. God blesses us with what we have and entrusts us to make use of it to further the kingdom. Some of us have a lot of money to give and other have a lot of time. We all have gifts or skills to offer as well.
Before that, I was much more attached to my stuff than I am now. I still am very tentative with new things that I acquire, but I have loosened my grip over the past several years. I used to fear that someone would break my stuff when borrowing it and then I would be sad and have to buy a new one. That happened on more than one occasion. So I still fight that tight grip sometimes, but when I step back and think for a minute, it is really just stuff.
God has entrusted me with certain things to manage. I have a good job with income that I must use wisely. I also have a family to look after and help provide for. It is very tough making the almighty dollar stretch everywhere I want to give. It is hard sometimes because I find gadgets that I want and I don’t always make the right decision, but I know that God is working on me. I am trying to be a good manager of what God has given to me.
